Regarding prayer behind an Imam who has less memorization in Qur'an than some of the Mamoon (person praying behind the Iman)
Answer:
The basic rule is to keep or select some one who has more memorization and
Better recitation in Qur'an as the Imam, as it came in the hadith of Abu
Masood رضي الله عنه in saheeh that the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said which
means The person who is suppose to be the imam is the person who have better
recitation and memorization in Qur'an than others ....
But the majority of the scholars made 2 exceptional cases from the
basic ruling:
1. If there is an Imam who is responsible for the
prayer to lead who is selected from the beginning and after that someone became
better than him (the first Imam) in memorization and recitation in Qur'an, Here
we are not obligated to replace the first Imam with the better one unless he
himself select the better one, Because it may open door for fitna to happen
among the Muslims in that place.
2. If we are in a place which is in
the custody of someone else/which is owned by someone else then we have to pray
behind him even though he is less memorized or weak in recitation, this is the
sunnah unless he gave the permission to lead the prayer.
